Is Your Blog or Web Site "Sticky"..? Add a SNAP SHOT!

It's Time to get Sticky With it!

One of the challenges of having an interesting website or blog is not only quality content, but "stickiness". Stickiness is the ability of a website or blog to "hold the users interest" so that they peruse more pages, and read more content. (Scroll over links in my profile section) >>>>>

I am currently rebuilding my website and have been looking around at all the different widgets, tools and functions I could add that could make my site a bit more "sticky"  They are all over the place, and I am sure I could go over board! I'm sure you've noticed here on Active Rain members are using widgets to make their profiles and blogs a bit more fun and interactive. There are polls, Meebo chats etc.

Try a Snap Shot

One that I have chosen, and you may consider too is a Snap Shot tool that allows users of your site or blog to get a preview of other websites, blogs simply by rolling over the link. For instance, on my website I have Real Estate Shows listed as a preferred vendor, along with Jeff's logo etc.  My website has many links to other organizations and websites. What's really nice is that the reader has the ability to turn the snap shot off or on, it has a search function, and you can customize it with your logo~

How does it work...?

First go to Snap Shots and create your customized snap shot window. Enter the URL of your blog or web site and wala...the code for you to place on your page. Its simple and easy to use.

You can even use different types of Snap Shots...for photos, videos etc.  So if you think about all the links and resources you may be providing on your websites for buyers and sellers, or use links in your blog consider this simple and easy tool to make yourself "sticky".

Try some more links on for size:  Laurie Manny

Now, how the heck did you get it to work???  Yep, that's it!!  :D  (I wish we had smilies in active rain, big brother, are you listening????!!!)

After you type in the text you want linked, highlight it with your curser then go up to the toolbar and click on the chainlink. It will open another window for you to enter your URL. Hit ok, then your link should work.

I like this very much but I have seen it overused on sites. It can be very annoying to have everything pop up at you while you're trying to read a blog post. Is there a way to limit what is connected to Snap Shot and what is not? Also, do you know how to use autoresponders in One Shopping Cart?
Posted by Connie Ragen Green ~Online Writing and Technology (Small Business UnMarketing) over 3 years ago

Hi Connie~ Yes, it can be annoying. The nice thing is that there is a disable button so that you can turn it off.

No, I'm not familiar with One Shopping cart, otherwise I'd love to help!

Connie,

I have been dabbling with autoresponders lately, let me know if you need some help!!

Laura !

I just discovered a problem - By adding it to my site I can now easily check the links - I just found a bunch that were incorrect!

I added it to my A/R site here too.  No bad links so far.

Posted by Mike Mueller (Tech and Social Media Consultant) over 3 years ago

TLW~ You are a hoot! I love sticky widgets too, Love ya Babe!

Hi Mike~ I love that you added that! Now if anyone gets annoyed, you can always turn it off;) OT: I'm originally from Pleasanton in the East Bay...we were neighbors...I miss it!

Posted by Real Estate Virtual Assistant Laura Monroe (Creative Agent Solutions.com (916)343-3823) over 3 years ago

We still are neighbors - Rocklin is just a hop skip and jump away.

I think if I lived elsewhere I'd miss SF Bay the most.

We went to KFOG's firework show on Saturday. Pier 32 I think -

What a wonderful time!  We left at 8 and we were back by 10:30.  (We did take the bikes so traffic and parking were not an issue)

With Rocklin you have all the beautiful foothills, Lake Tahoe, Hwy 49 all at your doorstep!

I can see living in Rocklin - no problem!

PS: Yes I did put that link in there to test out the "Snap"

Laura,

Hope you do not mind bringing back this older post. But I have been tracking down the Snap Shots widget. The information on the website worked to put the widget in my site blog and on my website itselt. I will work more to use it better.

I could not get it to work on my AR blog.

Could you help with some instruction on where to post the html code in the AR blog?

Thanks,

Richard

Posted by Richard Smith FHA VA USDA Chattanooga TN GA (American Acceptance Mortgage, Inc) over 2 years ago

Hi Richard~ Once you have the HTML code fro the Snap Shot, then from your ARHOME page, go to MY Settings, then copy/paste the code into the box that says "Blog description" (after your description:) Click UPDATE, then your Snap Shot should work for you.

Send me an email if you still have issues:)
